Natalie Imbruglia Biography and Top 10 Songs

December 30th, 2010

I know it is very sad but I used to watch Neighbours (Australian Soap Opera) when I was younger, mainly because it was on at home after I got home from school but also because there were some nice looking girls on there. It was on Neighbours that I first learned of Natalie Imbruglia because she played the character of Beth Brennan. I am completely over all that now, (I’ve not even really watched TV for about five years) which is nothing to do with the fact that she left the show around 1994. Neighbours is also responsible for the likes of Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Kimberley Davies and Craig McLachlan.

Natalie Imbruglia started her music career in 1997 and behind Kylie Minogue is one of Australia’s most successful musical exports. The release of her first single Torn rocketed her into the limelight and was a massive hit, selling over 1 million copies in the UK alone where it reached #2 in the chart.

Her debut album release was called Left Of The Middle and hit the shelves in 1997 and went to #1 in Australia and into the top 10 in both the UK and the US.also. The album has sold way over 1 million copies and turned Platinum within four weeks of it’s release and turned 2x Platinum in 1998.

White Lilies Island was the next installment and was released in 2001 and is my favourite of her albums. The name is derived from the island where her home in England is. The album was slightly less successful commercially but lyrically and musically it was a huge hit. The original UK copies had a security program hidden on them which prevented people ripping the tracks to their PC’s and also contained hidden copies of the tracks which were of lower quality which would only play when in a PC. Despite the problems the album has still managed to sell over 1.5 million copies.

2005 saw the release of Counting Down The Days and went straight into the UK chart at #1 and sold over 400,000 copies in the first week. The album was actually ready for release in 2003 but her record label wouldn’t release it as they believed it to be too Rock oriented and not very radio-friendly, so eventually she pared ways with them and signed to a new record label in 2004.

Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007 was obviously released in 2007 and and is a compilation album but also contains five new songs and sold 33,000 copies in its first week and to date has sold way over 500,000 copies. There is a limited edition which also contains a DVD of her video’s.

Also in 2003 Natalie Imbruglia starred alongside Rowan Atkinson in the movie Johnny English where she played the part of Lorna Campbell and in 2007 she was filming for the lead part in an Australian film called Elise which has yet to have a release date announced. She has also had a great modeling career with L’Oreal where she modeled mascara and other cosmetics products.

New Lincoln Cent – The Proverbial Lost Coin?

December 29th, 2010

Have you seen the new Lincoln Cent yet? Most people haven’t, and don’t know where to find one.

The year 2009 is a momentous one for the US Mint and for coin collectors. One of the most venerable United States coins, the Lincoln Cent, is receiving a makeover to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent and the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth. While there is no change in the obverse (heads) side of the coin, the reverse (tails) side of the coin is completely redesigned.

In fact, the US Mint is coming out with four versions of the 2009.

The four versions of the penny will depict various stages in Lincoln’s life: Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky, followed by Formative Years in Indiana, then Professional Life in Illinois, and finally Presidency in Washington, D.C.

Lincoln Cents bearing the first design were released February 12, 2009 in Hodgenville, KY. Hodgenville was Lincoln’s birthplace. The reverse of the coin depicts a cabin which is probably similar to the one in which Lincoln was reared.

The pennies are being distributed by banks, which are receiving rolls of the coins on an as-needed basis. This means that there may actually be banks which do not receive the new coins because they have no great need for pennies, or because shipments are actually made to banks from inventory, with new coins only being sent out as needed. It seems that old circulation is sent before newly minted coins. It also seems that shipments of the new pennies are being bunched to banks in different geographic locations rather than evenly dispersed. Coin dealers and banks have reported that there is high demand for the new coins, and many collectors are frustrated in that they have not been able to obtain the coins. Dealers in North Texas simply shook their heads when asked about 2009 Lincoln Cents at shows in February and March of 2009.

The US Mint has recognized this, and realized that there is profit to be made! The mint has announced that they will start selling two roll sets of the coins on their website. Each set will consist of one roll of uncirculated roll of pennies from the Philadelphia mint and one from the Denver mint. The cost to collectors will be $8.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling…a total cost to the collector of $13.90 for $1.00 worth of coins. Dealers expect this premium to drop precipitously as more coins become available, with many feeling that the price will probably settle at around $1.00 per roll.

Broadway History

December 28th, 2010

Dinner, then a movie has been the timeless way to start out a date. It is the first two activities carried out during the early stages of dating. However, there are people who prefer doing a play rather than a movie. Broadway is a great way to go because they really know how to bring out the message of show and the music is to die for.

To know when and how Broadway started, there is an assortment of options on how to go about this. The information can be quite exhilarating. So why not take the chance to find out? Get to know the very first shows that were played out and how despite the constant change in technology, Broadway has managed to stay contemporary.

While getting to know Broadway history, take the initiative to find out how an act is put into place and the steps involved to make it a success. This way you can understand why people would love it. They have been even more important when trying to get across a message during calamities. Even though the entertainment industry does a good job of this, the Broadway makes it a reality.

The early 20’s saw a huge growth of Broadway history but since then it has toned down. Not to say that people no longer attend, they do, but not as much as people in the earlier days knew how to. The people who make the act what it is, be it music or dancing, should be well appreciated for a job well done. In my opinion they are the ones that have managed to keep Broadway history on the road.
